During the Coronavirus lockdown I’ve been using the spare time to make stuff for my house. I’ve been in my new home since August last year and had planned to make soft furnishings in colours that suit my new build rather than using what I’d already got from my previous 1960’s home. I have used brightly coloured silks which have been in my stash for some time. There’s been a bit of trial and error but this hiatus has given me a chance to think again about colours and style and because I love bright hues in all their glory I’ve enjoyed digging out different silks from my collection and using them to make a crazy quilted table runner, some machine embroidered wall hangings and appliqued cushions.
Still a way to go, however, although the sitting room is looking prettier and lighter now I want to make a really colourful wall hanging with 3D flowers to hang above & behind the sofa. But this is quite a long job so it has to be put at the top of the list for when I finish the next module of my hand embroidery course. No putting off any longer the samples to be worked in smocking, stump work and needlelace. So if the lockdown continues for a while longer I’m not going to be stumped for something to do.
